El CSIC desarrolla un antiviral de amplio espectro basado en quitosano, una sustancia derivada de la quitina presente en el caparazón de crustáceos como cangrejos y camarones, y que ha mostrado eficaz frente a infecciones respiratorias virales.Lee el estudio completo aquí Publicado en la revista Communications Biology, el estudio revela que este fármaco bloquea la entrada de los virus en las células mediante un mecanismo de acción irreversible, y muestra una potente actividad contra el virus que provoca la covid-19, el SARS-CoV-2, y el virus respiratorio sincitial (VRS), por lo que podría utilizarse como tratamiento para infecciones respiratorias virales mediante aerosoles o inhaladores, incluso después de la infección.
